A Doberman Pinscher disappeared from its family’s vacation home near Marco Island, Florida and was missing for about 12 hours. Two dolphins noticed that the dog was weak and in distress, so they splashed and made a commotion around the dog until people noticed. The dog had been too weak to bark and couldn’t get back to land due to a canal wall. Dolphins rock, don’t they? :)

A family in Florida was saved from a fire when their golden retriever alerted them to flames shooting up in their home. The dog barked until the duplex residents rose to see what was going on. One of the rooms was completely engulfed in flames. So how did the cat start the fire? The home occupants believe their cat knocked over a lit candle, setting the home aflame.

Here’s a news video about it:

Dog shoots man

A hunter in California is recovering from being shot in the back by his dog. The local sheriff’s department said the 53-year-old man was hunting with a friend near Los Banos when he set down his shotgun to retrieve his decoy ducks. His gun was loaded but the safety was on, according to authorities.

While the man was retreiving his decoys about 15 yards away, his female black Labrador retriever stepped on the gun. The dog somehow disengaged the safety and hit the trigger at the same time, firing a shell that hit the owner’s upper back. (Hmm, accident or prevention of fellow-animal murder? You decide.)

The man was treated and released at the hospital the same day.

A movie filmed entirely by chimps on rugged “chimpcams” will air in its entirety on BBC this Wednesday, 27 January.

From the clip shown on BBC’s website, it looks like we get to see chimps doing what they do — becoming curious about the camera boxes, tasting them, carrying them around and grabbing some random, yet interesting, footage.

Last week chimps were picking stocks, now they’re filmmakers. How much worse can it be than what professionals come up with these days?

More about the story (as well as a brief clip) can be seen here:

A 36-year-old Maine man faces assault charges after allegedly spraying fox urine on protesters and a cop outside a Portland restaurant. People were protesting labor violations, and apparently this dude didn’t like that, so hmm, what to do, what to do. “I know.. spray animal pee on them!”

Sure, there were many things this guy could have chosen, including his own urine, but fox pee? What message is he trying to send? “Hey, you’re foxy?!” …And what is he doing with fox urine anyway? Where would u even get that? Hmm, I hope THAT’s not on amazon!

*update: ok, i had to look. O.M.G….. Amazon does sell fox urine:

8 Oz Fox Urine for sale. Yes amazon has everything!

alright then.

elephant angst

elephant angst

A herd street gang of wild elephants vandalized a school in Matkumdih, India last July.

The elephants trod to the school’s kitchen and ate most of the food allocated for student meals. Food didn’t seem to be the motive, though — they also smashed out doors and windows in multiple classrooms, shredded textbooks and ‘tagged’ some of the rooms with paint.

Perhaps some evil teenage genius found a way to control elephants remotely and wanted to get back at his school, hmm? Or perhaps an angry call center employee was behind it.

Then again, maybe it was just a severe case of elephant angst. Being a teenage elephant sucks, you know.
